单词 Competition Commission
释义 Competition Commission

= (CC)

A UK body set up in 1998 in replacement of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC) and the Restrictive Practices Court (RPC), with the same aims, controlling monopoly and encouraging competition. The CC is empowered to investigate situations of market domination, where an existing firm or group of firms acting in concert has 40 per cent or more of a market, and mergers where a proposed merged firm would have more than 25 per cent of a market. It can also investigate restrictive practices or illegal collusion referred to it by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The CCs decisions are only recommendations; where breaches of current laws are concerned, enforcement is dealt with by the OFT; new legislation, or prohibition of rejected merger proposals, is up to the government.
