Investment Advisory Representative (IAR)
Personnel that work for investment advisory companies whose main responsibility is to provide investment related advice. According to regulations, IARs can only provide advice on topics on which they have passed the appropriate examinations. Investopedia Says:
In addition to passing the appropriate exams, an IAR also must be registered with the proper state authorities. In order to expand their knowledge about financial products and principles, many IARs hold either the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designations.
