单词 | oil embargo |
释义 | oil embargo A refusal to supply oil to countries whose policies are disliked. As bulk oil is mainly carried in pipelines and large and easily recognized tankers, an embargo on bulk oil supplies is relatively easy to enforce. Oil is so widely used as a fuel that this can create severe economic problems for the victim of an embargo. Refined petroleum products, which can be carried in smaller vehicles, barrels, or cans, can much more easily be smuggled, so that an effective embargo is difficult to police. |
