Such banks are known in the UK as retail or high street banks. They also provide various services for depositors, including provision of cash and credit cards, storage facilities for valuables and documents, foreign exchange, stockbroking, mortgage finance, and executor services. Commercial banks are contrasted with central bank, and with investment, merchant, and other specialist banks which deal little with the general public. |
