There is a prima facie case that all economic decisions should be forward-looking. This is extremely difficult to achieve in practice, however, because of the absence of reliable information about the future. It can be argued that the tendency for some economic agents to use rule-of-thumb decision methods, as in satisficing models, makes their behaviour more predictable and thus assists other agents in making forward-looking decisions. |
