trading estate

trading estate(industrial estate) An area of land that has been granted planning permission for the development of factories, warehouses, offices, retail outlets, etc. Originating in the late 19th century (e.g. at Trafford Park, Manchester in 1896), they offer land away from residential areas that is well served by transport and services; they also enable premises to be acquired at low rentals.
