| 释义 | inverse function A function which reverses the effect of another function. If y = f(x), then the inverse function can be written x = f-1 (y). The inverse of the inverse function is the original function. While for some functions, for example the linear function, the inverse is of the same form as the original function, for many other functions this is not the case. Inverse functions need not be unique: for example if y = x2, x = ± √y. In matrix algebra, the inverse of a matrix A is a matrix which reverses the operations performed by A; if y = Ax, x = A-1 y. A-1 exists only if A has the same number of row and columns and these are independent; if A-1 does exist, it is unique and A-1 A = AA-1 y = I, the identity matrix. |
