| 释义 | European Community = (EC) The main institution of European unity, formed in 1967 from the European Atomic Energy Community, the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), and the European Economic Community (EEC). In 1993 its title changed to the European Union (EU). Its six founder members were Belgium, France, (West) Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. Denmark, Ireland, and the UK joined in 1973, Greece in 1979, and Portugal and Spain in 1986. |
