| 释义 | differential equation An equation relating the value of a variable to its own derivatives with respect to time, treating time as a continuous variable. This is contrasted with difference equations, in which time is treated as a discrete variable. A first-order linear differential equation, for example, can be written as y(t) = a + b(dy/dt). The solution of differential equations makes use of the same procedures as integration; many differential equations have analytical solutions, while others have to be solved numerically on a computer. |
