The second difference is the first difference Δxt minus the previous period's first difference Δxt-1 ; thus Δ2 xt = Δxt - Δxt-1 = xt - 2xt-1 + xt-2. The same principle applies in calculating further differences. If it is desired to measure differences forward from time t, use is made of the notation [dtri]xt = xt+1 - xt. |
