| 释义 | demutualization The conversion of financial or other institutions owned by their members into companies owned by shareholders. This has happened in recent years to many, but not all, UK building societies and insurance companies, and the AA. Critics of demutualization argue that demutualized institutions will be run for the benefit of their shareholders rather than their customers. Supporters of demutualization argue that in practice the members of mutual institutions have almost no influence on the conduct of the directors, and that while many members continue to be shareholders after demutualization, efficiency is improved by allowing other firms to become shareholders, thus exposing the institutions to the market pressures that affect companies. |
