单词 | demarcation |
释义 | demarcation The reservation of particular tasks to workers with specialized skills. Some degree of demarcation is essential to health and safety, for example insisting that gas installations are fitted by qualified engineers. Members of professions or craft-based unions face the temptation to insist on high levels of demarcation to exploit their monopoly power. A demarcation dispute is a protest by one union against other workers performing jobs which are regarded as the preserve of its own members. Excessive demarcation leads to inflexibility and inefficiency; too little leads to electrical fires and collapsing buildings. |
