单词 | capitalist |
释义 | capitalist A person whose income comes from the ownership of capital. In a capitalist economy with a well-developed occupational pension system and where the majority of homes are owner-occupied housing, it could be argued that most workers are to some extent also capitalists. The term is, however, normally applied only to people who derive a significant proportion of their income from property. In the nineteenth century a capitalist would typically have been a rentier, a landlord, or self-employed, but nowadays most capitalists also derive a significant fraction of their incomes from salaried employment. |
