A method of production where output emerges in discrete units. It is often used when there is a requirement that a certain quantity of a product, for example wallpaper, should be of a uniform pattern and quality, but the required characteristics differ between different orders. If there is anything wrong with the product, batch production makes it relatively easy to identify the workers, machines, and materials responsible for any particular part of output. This helps to motivate those concerned to avoid defects in products, and makes it easier to avoid repeating mistakes.
