释义 | unearned income unearned income Income not derived from trades, professions or vocations, or from the emoluments of office. In the UK it was formerly taxed more heavily than earned income, through the imposition of an investment-income surcharge. Earned and unearned income are now taxed at essentially the same rates, with some minor differences in the treatment of income from savings and company dividends. unemployment An inability to find work although it is actively sought. Theoretically the unemployed are those members of the active labour force who are out of work, although in most cases statistics are based on the number of people claiming jobseeker’s allowance. Unemployment has been a persistent problem in industrial economies during recession over the last 200 years.
