direct-response TV advertising(DRTV advertising; direct-action advertising) A television advertisement designed to stimulate immediate purchase or encourage some other direct response. Television spots, typically 60 to 120 seconds long, attempt to describe a product or service, persuade viewers of its merits, and provide a free phone number for ordering or for further information.
