单词 | easy fiscal policy |
释义 | easy fiscal policy A policy of cutting taxes, increasing government spending, and not worrying about the resulting budget deficits and increases in government debt. Such a policy is likely to be advocated when the economy is depressed. While this policy is tempting when investment and employment are below normal, it has dangers for the future. Taxes can be raised again when the economy recovers, but once people have got used to increased state spending, cuts are politically very unpopular, and servicing a large government debt has deadweight costs. Any government that adopts an easy fiscal policy is thus storing up trouble for its successors. |
