| 释义 | series A sequence of numbers defined by an initial term and a rule for getting from each term to the next. For example, in the arithmetic progression a, a + b, a + 2b, etc., the first term is a, and the rule for getting to the next term is to add a constant b to the previous one. Such a series can be continued indefinitely. A convergent series is one where the sum of the first N terms tends to a finite limit as N tends to infinity; a divergent series is one where the sum of the first N terms does not tend to a finite limit (an arithmetic progression, for example, does not converge).
