单词 | residual error |
释义 | residual error The difference between the value of any variable as predicted from a statistical model, and the actual level observed. For example, a fitted consumption function could be ci = α + βyi, where ci is the consumption and yi is the disposable income of individual i. The values of α and β are found by minimizing the sum of squared residuals in the equation ci = α + βyi + εi, where εi is an error term. The residual is thusεi = ci - α - βyi ;note that the convention adopted for the sign of the residual error makes it positive if the actual exceeds the predicted value of ci. |
