单词 | prescriptive statement |
释义 | prescriptive statement A statement about what ought to be, as opposed to a positive statement which is concerned only with facts. In many cases statements which are formally of one type carry strong implications of the other. ‘smoking can seriously damage your health’, for example, is in form purely positive, but carries the prescriptive implication ‘so don't smoke’. |
