moneylender A person whose business it is to lend money, other than pawnbrokers, friendly or building societies, corporate bodies with special powers to lend money, banks, or insurance companies. The Consumer Credit Act 1974 replaces the earlier Moneylenders Acts and requires all moneylenders to be registered, to obtain an annual licence to lend money, and to state the true annual percentage rate (APR) of interest at which a loan is made. |
