释义 | Financial Ombudsmen 1) (Banking Ombudsman) An official in charge of a service set up in 1986 by 19 banks, which fund the service, to investigate complaints from bank customers against the service provided by member banks. In 1993 the service was extended to deal with complaints from small businesses (turnover less than £1M). 2) (Building Societies Ombudsman) An official in charge of a service set up in 1987 by all the UK building societies, who fund the service, to investigate complaints from building-society customers against the services provided by the building societies. 3) (Insurance Ombudsman) An official in charge of a service set up in 1981 by some 200 insurance companies, who fund the service, to settle disputes between insurance policyholders and member insurance companies. The Insurance Ombudsman's Bureau also runs the Unit Trusts Ombudsman Scheme, to settle disputes between unit-trust holders and unit-trust management companies. It was set up in 1988. 4) (Investment Ombudsman) An official for resolving disputes between members of IMRO (see Self-Regulating Organization) and their customers. The service was set up in 1989. The Personal Investment Authority (PIA) Ombudsman is responsible for resolving complaints against PIA members about personal investments. 5) (Pensions Ombudsman) An official set up by the Pension Schemes Act 1993 to resolve grievances between individuals and their pension schemes (but not National Insurance benefits). |
