单词 earned income
释义 earned income

Income generally acquired by the personal exertion of the taxpayer as distinct from such passive income as dividends from investments. It is often thought by tax theorists that earned income should be taxed at a lower rate than unearned income, since the latter accrues without the expenditure of the taxpayer's time and effort. This has been reflected in different ways in the UK over the years, with such measures as earned-income relief, wife's earned-income relief, and investment-income surcharge. Earned income consists primarily of wages and salaries, business profits, royalties, and some pensions. There are currently no differences in the UK between the rates of taxation for earned and unearned income.
