It has been the principal financial district of the UK, with office blocks clustering around the Stock Exchange, the Bank of England, Lloyd's, and the commodity markets. Since the 1980s, City institutions have spread eastwards to the London Docklands redevelopment area and westwards to occupy former newspaper offices in Fleet Street. |
