1 [U] the ability to make sensible decisions after carefully considering the best thing to do: good/poor/sound judgement I trust your judgement in these matters. Management showed a lack of judgement in failing to discuss the move with staff. We made an error of judgement (= a bad decision).
2 [C,U] an opinion that you form about sth after thinking about it carefully; the act of making this opinion known to others: We need to make a judgement on/about this. I would like to reserve judgement until I have seen the report. The decision was taken against my better judgement (= although I thought it was perhaps wrong).
3 (usually judgment) [C,U] a decision of a court or a judge; the reasons given for the decision: The court will hand down (= give) its judgment on Friday. The court has yet to pass judgment (= make a decision) in the case. We will study the judgment closely before deciding whether to appeal. A High Court judge reserved judgment on the claim (= delayed giving it in order to consider the evidence). |
