单词 warrant
释义

warrant

warrant1. (share warrant) A security that offers the owner the right to subscribe for the ordinary shares of a company at a fixed date, usually at a fixed price. Warrants are themselves bought and sold on stock exchanges and are equivalent to stock options. Subscription prices usually exceed the market price, as the purchase of a warrant is a gamble that a company will prosper. They have proved increasingly popular in recent years as a company can issue them without including them in the balance sheet. warranty1. A statement made clearly in a contract (express warranty) or, if not stated clearly, understood between the parties to the contract (seeimplied warranty). An unfulfilled warranty does not invalidate the contract (as it would in the case of an unfulfilled condition) but could lead to the payment of damages. See alsofloating warranty. wash sale A US name for the sale and purchase by a single investor, or a group in collusion, of a block of securities, either simultaneously or in a short space of time, to establish a loss or a gain; it may also be used to create the impression that the security in question is trading actively. It is similar to the practice known in the UK as bed and breakfast.
