The minimum sum of money, stated in the prospectus of a new company, that the directors consider must be raised if the company is to be viable. minimum wage The minimum wage that an employer may legally pay an employee. In some countries there are statutory national minimum wages and in other countries there may be agreed minimum wages within certain industries. The UK introduced its first statutory minimum wage in 1999; and a National Living Wage from April 2016. The rates for the National Living Wage from April 2017 are £7.50 per hour for those aged 25 or over, £7.05 for those aged 21–24, £5.60 for those aged 18–20, and £4.05 for those under 18. Special rules apply to apprentices. |
