To do this they use a variety of techniques, including a comparison of a company’s present profits with its future trading prospects; this enables the analyst to single out the companies likely to outperform the general level of the market. This form of technical analysis is often contrasted with fundamental analysis, in which predicted future market movements are related to the underlying state of an economy and its expected trends. Analysts who rely on past movements to predict the future are called chartists. |
