Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation(FHLMC) A corporation established in the USA in 1970 to buy mortgages from savings and loan associations in order to resell them in the secondary market packaged as securities. The stock of the corporation is held by the Federal Home Loan Banks. The FHLMC is often referred to as Freddie Mac. Following a collapse in its share value, it was taken into temporary public ownership in September 2008.
