Market-capitalization weighted equity indices of the US firms, published by Frank Russell company: (1) Russell 3000 index, measures the performance of the 3000 largest US corporations (with market-capitalization range of $170 million to $200 billion, average $2.8 billion) representing 98 percent of the local equity market. (2) Russell 2500 index, measures the performance of 2500 smallest firms (average capitalization $733 million) in the Russell 3000 index, representing 23 percent of the equity market. (3) Russell 2000 index, measures the performance of 2000 smallest firms (average capitalization $467 million) representing 10 percent of the equity market. (4) Russell 1000 index, measures the performance of 1000 largest firms in the Russell 3000 index (average capitalization $7.6 billion) representing 90 percent of the equity market. (5) Russell Top 200 index, measures the performance of largest 200 firms in the Russell 3000 index (average capitalization $26.4 billion) representing 65 percent of the equity market. (6) Russell Midcap index, measures the performance of 800 smallest firms in the Russell 3000 index (average capitalization $2.9 billion) representing 35 percent of the equity market.
