Low (generally 0.3 to 0.7 percent) carbon steels that remain hard at dull-red heat generated in machining operations. They typically contain 5 percent chromium and 10 to 20 percent tungsten, and may also contain small amounts of cobalt and/or vanadium. Used mainly for dies, drill bits, reamers, saw blades, and taps.
