accretive acquisition

A type of acquisition which is expected to increase the acquiring company's EPS over a reported period of time. This usually occurs when a company with a higher P/E ratio acquires a company with a lower P/E ratio, forecasting growth potential by combining the cheaper valuation of the target firm with the higher valuation, or profit expectations, of the acquiring firm.
