释义 | no contestDefinition Plea in a criminal case that the accused will not contest the facts on which the charge is based. Though it is comparable to a plea of guilt in authorizing a court to punish the accused, it does not constitute an admission of guilt and is generally aimed at preventing lawsuits that may arise from admission. Also called nolo contendere. Use 'no contest' in a SentenceHe pleaded no contest in the hearings and then was actually not sentenced and received only probation, which made him happy. When the Olympic gold medalist cyclist entered the bike race in my local town, I proved to be no contest for him and was left far behind him within minutes of the race beginning. Sometimes if you know you will lose the case but do not want to plead guilty it is better to plead no contest. |
