Definition
Sales technique whereby a salesperson first seeks to understand the prospect's stated (express) and unstated (tacit) needs through probing-questions and careful listening. The salesperson then tailors his or her presentation to highlight those aspects of a product that satisfy the prospect's needs. Also called need satisfaction selling.
