Chicago convention

Definition

Adopted in 1944, this treaty established the rights of signatory states over their territorial airspace, and laid down the basic principles relating to international transport of dangerous goods by air. It provided two basic freedoms: (1) the freedom to fly over another country without landing, and (2) the freedom to stop for fuel and repairs in a country without taking on or leaving cargo or passengers. The terms of this treaty are amplified in the International Civil Aviation Organization regulations (see ICAO Technical Instructions). Full name: Chicago Convention On International Civil Aviation.
