Definition

Revised layout of English typewriter and computer keyboards which is much more efficient than the traditional QWERTY keyboard layout. Despite its ability to increase typing speed by an average 35 percent, however, the Dvorak design has failed to make any dent in the popularity of the 130-year old traditional design due to its universal use and availability. Invented in 1936 by the US physician and professor Dr. August Dvorak (1894-1975) after extensive time-and-motion studies.
