smart label

A type of RFID tag that is configured to be flat enough to fit under a traditional label. These low profile transponders provide the ability to scan inventory without line-of-sight access. The labels are typically also printed with a barcode or other traditional visual information. Special label creation equipment is required to write data onto the RFID device and to ensure that it is not damaged during printing.
