单词 International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code
释义

International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code

Definition
Almost-universally accepted code for regulating sea transport of hazardous materials. First published in 1965 by International Maritime Organization (then known as Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization), it is updated every two years to serve as the definitive guide for safe transportation and prevention of marine-pollution. It particularly addresses matters such as packing and container stowage, with special reference to the segregation of incompatible substances. The latest version (Amendment 30) became effective on January 1, 2001. IMDG code is based on the UN 'Recommendations On The Transport Of Material By Sea' and incorporates additional regulations for shipboard safety and preservation of marine environment. Over 150 countries with combined merchant fleet exceeding 98 percent of world's gross tonnage observe its requirements.
