The plans and strategies developed by a company or organization that allows them to cope with emergencies by using personnel and strategies from within the organization. For example, in the event of a natural disaster, a utility company could have shut-down procedures to initiate before the disaster strikes, procedures to protect the plant during the disaster, and procedures to bring the plant back on line after the disaster is over. Internal recovery may not be feasible for all businesses due to management complexities and development costs. See also business continuity.
