A method used to normalize a data set so that statistical tests can be performed to evaluate it properly. Many real world raw data sets do not conform to the normality assumptions used for statistics. Yet, transformation functions can sometimes be used to normalize the data. If this is done, the transformed numbers must still make sense for the statistical evaluation to be relevant.
