A computer bus designed to allow a computer to communicate with other devices by sending data back and forth through a serial cable. The bus may be located internally or externally depending on the design of the computer system. A serial ATA provides a high-speed connection and uses point-to-point technology to ensure efficient communication between two devices. The serial ATA was designed to replace the parallel ATA interface. The Serial ATA International Organization is responsible for the development and maintenance of the serial ATA.
